HAPPY NOVEMBER COYOTE SUPPORTERS
COYOTE RI UPDATES
Welcome to our first newsletter on Substack. COYOTE has been busy doing some upgrades. We have updated our website. We still have the COYOTE Archives available. Thank you Nadia Clement for volunteering to redesign our website.
A huge Thank you to Tara Burns, Tatiana Rothchild, and the rest of our research team, who are working on several new research projects and publications.
Thank you, Lindsey Berry, COYOTEs “Health and Safety Education Specialist for facilitating our re-entry empowerment program for the women at the RI ACI every week. COYOTE RI is now providing case management to assist the women in getting copies of their birth certificates and social security cards, which are required to get their state ID. Without a state ID, they can not get a job or apply for SNAP, Medicaid, and other public services. We are also providing the women being released from the RI ACI with a 100 Savers Gift Card for clothing and a 100 Stop & Shop gift card for food and household items. We are also assisting as many of them as we can in accessing sober houses & safe housing. #creatingcommunity
A huge Thank you to “The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women & Girls” for providing 2 COYOTE members (Bella & Gabby) with scholarships to attend the 2023 FreeHer Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. COYOTE also presented a workshop on “Re-centering and Healing while working on Immunity Bills for Sex Workers and survivors. We were thrilled to have connected with Ashunte Coleman, Executive Director of LIPS Florida
Hat tip to John Prince for organizing Black October. It was a great event with fabulous speakers like Bella Noka, Cleo Silvers, and Deb Davis.

California: AB 1726, which makes a technical fix that would enable immigrants to benefit from recent laws that repealed certain criminal laws. Last year SB 357 repealed loitering with intent to commit prostitution and created a process to clear the records of persons with past convictions. In 2017, SB 239 decriminalized engaging in prostitution while living with HIV. These laws did not include language that would wipe out criminal convictions for purposes of immigration relief. AB 1726 fixes that problem. Link
